Farm family

We are suckers for any kind of animal. Meet Hef, the bunny. He was an Easter present for Trey, the animal loving teenager. Oh, dear, teenager...that makes me feel so old. When the baby is a teen, then I must have aged also. Oh well, still young at heart.
And the animals keep my young. They absolutely delight me every day. And Hef is no exception. He is our first time at bunny keeping and I didn't know what great personalities they had. He cracks me up with his antics and need for attention. Truly a great pet - quite messy - but now he is outdoors where bunnies belong unless they are potty trained.

First quilt finished

My first quilt is finished and I loved the whole process. My borrowed Bernina worked like a dream and I am so happy with the finished product, even though I feel as if I cheated a little. Using the charm packs was so easy. But I wanted easy for my first quilt. Simple square on the front and I pieced the back.
I quilted with lines on either side of the seams and it turned as I hoped.
Next project, disappearing nine patch blocks with left over charms and add a border to finish it off.

First quilt

My first quilt top and back are finished and ready to quilt. I am so excited that I can't see straight. It was such a simple quilt that I almost feel bad about bragging. I bought the charm packs of Tula Pink's Hushabye and arranged and then sewed. The back has a strip of blocks in the middle and two coordinating fabrics on either end. I plan to quilt with straight lines on either side of all seams.
I had left over charms so I assembled some of them in a disappearing 9 patch block. I think I will have enough for six of these blocks and then planning on improvising around them to get the another quilt.
I want to thank all the wonderful quilters out there who blog, quilt dad, red pepper quilts, cluck cluck sew, to name a few. They have given me the courage and confidence to begin. Also they
have all written such great tutorials that even beginners can quilt. Thank you for all the time you have put into your blogs, you will never know how much inspiration they have given strangers.

September birthdays

September is a big month for birthdays in our family, my sister, our youngest son, Trey, and the super-duper grandson, Kolby. And since orange seemed to the knitting theme for the month, Angie received a orange shrug made out of Tabali yarn, a silk blend. It turned out so cute, much cuter on her than laying on the table. But I didn't get a pic of her with it on, so this must do.

Trey's birthday was Friday - pictures to follow later this week. But number one grandson had a spiderman birthday at the park in his hometown. Talk about a fun day. He was a great little trooper and shared with all his friends. And in case you are unaware - SPIDERMAN RULES!

My first quilting attempt

My second sewing project was a quilted valance for the upstairs bathroom. I decided to just play with material and arrangement and do my own thing. Fabric was cut into 2.5 x 3" rectangles and then pieced together lengthwise and widthwise. Then a border of 3x3 squares was added to make curtain wider. I backed and binded is with an old sheet. This was totally a learning project but I am very happy with the end product. When the afternoon light shines through it, it looks like stained glass. But more important, I enjoyed the process. I am now reserving Sunday afternoons for sewing. Next project, a birthday surprise for a dear friend. The

Cowboy victory!

Woo-hoo, football has started. Mama is a happy person. Three days of football frenzy! And to celebrate the OSU victory, the OSU lap blanket for the St. Francis bazaar is finished! I thought it might be a baby blanket but my bff thought it would be a cool stadium blanket, of course whoever buys it can do what they want. So, I will try not to talk too much about football on this blog, but it will be hard. OSU 24 - Georgia 10 - Go Pokes!!!
